HISTORY

History

Lisa Pillow, founder and owner of Lisa’s Dance Spot, began her love of dance and cheer in high school and went on to become an eminent member of the Terpsichorean’s Dance Troupe at the prestigious Hampton University. As a member, she toured and performed throughout the east coast and was privileged to train under the famed Judith Jamison. During her undergraduate studies at the university, Lisa also became a member of the Hampton University Marching Force Band dance team known as Ebony Fire; where she served as captain for 2 years. After college, Lisa went on to become an Atlanta Falcons Cheerleader for two seasons and continues to stay active with the league through its Alumni Association. Since that time, Lisa has added experiences by serving as director of several Youth Cheer Programs, implementing after-school dance and cheer programs and choreographed performance and competition pieces for middle and high school dance and cheer teams.

With over 30 years of experience, Lisa’s work and accomplishments with youth and her passion for dance and cheer lead her to make her long time dream come true. In April of 2007, Lisa’s Dance Spot opened its doors and her dreams became a growing reality. Opening her own dance studio didn’t come short of its challenges, trials, and tribulations. A little more than a year after opening her studio, a natural disaster would flood the entire studio, forcing her to relocate temporarily to recreation centers or any space available to offer classes. The outpouring of support from her parents, staff, community, and family; she was able to start again and continue on her journey to become a Premiere dance studio in the metro area.

Regardless of age or ability, Lisa's Dance Spot believes that each student has the capacity to experience all that dance has to offer: a unique connection to one’s body, an opportunity to joyfully move as a musical instrument, and a life-long membership in a worldwide artistic community. We love seeing our students engage in life with confidence and joy, willing to take risks, and rhythmically approach any routine given to them. It is important to us that all students receive the individual attention necessary and encourage different experience levels to work together. We make certain students do not get lost in the shuffle while enhancing their abilities. We are filled with gratitude when we think about how Lisa’s Dance Spot has grown over the years. We will continue to work hard, determined to grow our vision of developing blossoming dance leaders and choreographers of the future. Lisa's Dance Spot strives for best in class rankings yet humble and grateful to be able to share our love of dance with the community and the world.
